Sabah quake tragedy: We are saddened
Just like all Singaporeans, I am shocked and saddened at the news of the deaths that happened because of the earthquake that struck Sabah on Friday (5 June 2015). Some Singapore school-children from Tanjong Katong Primary School (TKPS) and the teachers who went on a field trip to Mt Kinabalu were caught in the 6.0 magnitude earthquake.
According to The Sunday Times of 7 June, “one Singaporean is confirmed dead and nine are missing”. Its front-page headline reads: “9 S’poreans feared dead in quake”.
TKPS had sent a team of 29 pupils and eight teachers on this Mt Kinabalu expedition that turned tragic.
Rescue operations and identification of the dead bodies are on-going.
My family members, relatives and friends offer our condolences to the families of the dead and our concern to those injured. We share the sadness of the families of those caught in the tragedy.
